ABOUT US

Our Mission

Believing that education is the pathway out of poverty, Tiffany Tucker-Pryor, along with four other college students, created Redemption to increase the educational advancement of under-served New York City youth between the ages of 13 and 19.

Redemption, Inc., is a nonprofit youth-education and community empowerment organization. Redemption’s overarching goal is to bridge the gap between children in disadvantaged Brooklyn communities and success. It serves to enable teens that are at-risk of failing classes, dropping out of school and sabotaging their ability to excel academically and to become community leaders. Redemption encourages the educational advancement of youth by promoting intergenerational learning, community involvement, and self-advocacy.

Our Vision

There is redemption in "giving back" to a new generation of youth looking for guidance. We want to create a sustainable youth sector of educated, well-informed and motivated teens who are ready, eager, and determined to accomplish their goals and return to their communities to continue the cycle of giving-back.

Founded by Tiffany A. Tucker-Pryor, who was disenchanted by her Brooklyn high school— What disturbed Tiffany the most was the unfair way students were treated, the fact that kids who missed class were encouraged to drop out and get a GED, rather than helped to graduate with their class. Sometime in her senior year in high school, as Senior Class President, she made a promise to herself: Saying, “If I get out of here, I’m going to come back and give back because the kids here deserve more.

After becoming acclimated to college life at Adelphi University, summer of 2002 Tiffany made good on the promise she made to herself in high school.  She called a meeting of family members, old high school friends and new college friends to discuss how they could help high school students apply for and get accepted to college. In 2003 this team of adroit college students began reaching back and extended themselves to their community.

Today, Redemption functions as a resource of communication and guidance for the youth in our communities. Our goal is to bridge the gap between children in disadvantaged communities and success.
